Fall Play “Our Town”

This year,Livermore High School’s Drama Department is showcasing “Our Town” by Thorton Wilder for their annual winter play.

The drama teacher and person responsible for deciding which play to choose is Carol Hovey.

Hovey originally had a different play chosen but had to choose “Our Town” on short notice. When Hovey first started teaching at LHS this was one of the first shows she ever did.

Hovey had to choose a different play due to the threatening letter found in the bathroom earlier in the school year. She thought that it would be insensitive due to the play being called “Bang Bang You’re Dead”.

Regarding the change she said, “It just really spoke to me with the cast that I already had”

The play “Our Town” is a story of the fictional small American  town of Grover’s Corners taking place between 1901 to 1913. The play goes through the everyday lives of its citizens.

Hovey says “It is a beautifully crafted show that follows the lives of Emily Webb and George Gibbs.”

The Main characters are Athena McPeake as Emily Webb and Elias Barauskus as George Gibbs.

Although the main actors are important, what goes on behind the scenes is just as important to make sure the show goes smoothly.

Phoenix McPeake(12) is one of the many people apart of the tech crew for the play.

Her job is to move objects around set and to make sure that actors have their props before the play starts.

McPeake says “Every role is super important whether your the lead, or working on the spotlight.”

Most of the cast is underclassmen and this is their first show but so far they have gotten tons of positive feedback.

Hovey says “Come prepared to relax and think about ‘Our Town’. Our town of Livermore, our town’s school community, because we’re the ones living our lives and every moment counts.”

The remaining shows are tonight Friday, Dec. 7, and Saturday, Dec. 8, at 8:00 P.M.
