The Livermore High School Chamber Choir has the opportunity to sing with Matthew Morrison’s choir in the Venetian Room in San Francisco.

Matthew Morrison is an American actor, dancer, singer, and songwriter. He has starred in many Broadway productions, such as Hairspray and Finding Neverland. He also played as Will Schuester in the hit show Glee, which aired from 2009 to 2015.

The LHS Chamber Choir did a workshop in San Francisco that focused on improving singing techniques. The Choir Director of Bay Area Cabaret liked LHS’ Chamber Choir, and when asked by the music director of Bay Area Cabaret for a referred choir to sing for BAC, he chose the LHS Chamber Choir.

Chris Filice is the choir instructor at LHS. Filice was on vacation he got an email from the Director of Bay Area Cabaret. Filice said, “I got an email out of the blue, honestly.”

Filice was incredibly happy that LHS was offered this huge opportunity. He said, “This is totally how life works, especially in music….You do one little thing and you always want to do your best because you never know when that little thing is going to lead to something big.”

Originally BAC wanted 10 people and to that Filice replied, “How about 30?” BAC was able to compromise at 16, which is how many people are in Chamber Choir.

Since being chosen to perform, Filice has had no direct contact with Morrison; Instead, he talks to Morrison’s music director. The Chamber Choir was sent the music they will be performing and must have learned it by September 30th. The LHS Choir will be singing as MAtthew Morrison’s backup singers.

Although they don’t have direct contact with Matthew Morrison, they will do a soundcheck with Morrison and his choir the day of the event. When the Chamber Choir performs it will be a song from the Broadway production Finding Neverland, which Morrison previously performed in and retired in January.

Marcie Kumamoto (10) said, “The main song we are singing is ‘Stronger’ from Finding Neverland, it’s really good.” Kumamoto has been in choir for a year and is currently a Soprano in the Chamber Choir.

The night of the concert is Sunday, September 30, 2018, at 7 p.m. at the Venetian Room in San Francisco. If people are looking to purchase a ticket for the event use the code COWBOYS at purchase on to get $30 off the ticket.
