Wenqing Yan is a Chinese American artist. Yan is an environmentalist who expresses her emotions through her anime style artwork. She finished her bachelor’s degree in 2011, at the UC Berkeley.

Yan is well known for her digital art, but also creates traditional and 3D art. She uses Paint Tool Sai and Photoshop for her digital art, as well as uses ballpoint pen and watercolor for her traditional art.

  • Yan joined the site Deviantart at the age of twelve under the username Yuumei. After posting her piece “Tape it Back Together,” she began posting more thought provoking images.

  • One of these images, in the shape of an hourglass hence its name Countdown, depicts two polar bears on an iceberg melting into a city with a girl surrounded by floating goods.

  • Yan has written and illustrated four graphic novels including 1000 Words, Knite, Rumination, and Fisheye Placebo. These, and her other works, are inspired by nature and her personal experiences.

  • As the co-founder of the company she created the original design and promotional artwork for the cat ear headphones, that the company sells.
