Spanish teacher, Roxana Westbrook, shared her journey of how she became a teacher. Westbrook moved to the United States from Peru, where she got a degree in accounting. “I always was good in math so I thought I would like accounting,” explained Westbrook.  However, she decided that accounting wasn’t for her but still graduated and received her degree in that major.

It wasn’t until after moving to the United States she decided to pursue what she was truly passionate about – teaching. “When I came to the United States, and my kids were old enough, I was able to go back to school and then I studied what I really wanted. I got my credentials in Spanish,” described Westbrook. She graduated from California State University Bakersfield with a masters degree in Spanish,

She enjoys teaching high school students because she likes to see their growth. “I like when the students produce the language. After I teach them and it clicks in their head, I can see it on their faces when they get it,” said Westbrook.

Though Westbrook was unable to pursue teaching right away, she found her way to a job she truly loves and enjoys in the United States.
